Chapter 5

Understanding Computer Vision in Card Grading

Computer vision is the science of teaching machines to “see” like a human — but with far more precision.

In card grading, computer vision detects:

centering boundaries

color shifts

surface variance

scratches

texture anomalies

corner deformation

edge profiles

micro-print defects

AGS’s system goes further by combining CV with 3D depth mapping, something human eyes cannot do.
