Collectors say this all the time:
“Bro this looks like a 10 to me.”
Here’s why AI (and graders) sometimes disagree.
1. Micro-Scratches You Can’t See
Under normal light, a card may look flawless.
Under AGS scanning:
fine scratches
tiny abrasions
soft scuffs
…become clear.
2. Invisible Edge Whitening
Even a single pixel line of missing ink counts.
3. Impressions From Stacking
Cards pressed against each other leave tiny dents.
4. Layer-Level Surface Issues
AI sees texture inconsistencies invisible to the human eye.
5. Back-Centering Problems
Many collectors judge only the front.
Bottom Line
Your eyes see 1x zoom.
AGS sees 20–100x diagnostic detail.
That’s why a “looks gem” card sometimes hits a 9 or 9.5.
